Detailed Setup Guide

1

Unbox Your Ledger Device

Carefully unbox your Ledger device and ensure all components are present: the hardware wallet, USB cable, recovery sheet, and keychain strap. Check that the anti-tampering seal on the box was intact before opening.

Examine your device for any signs of damage or tampering. Your Ledger device should be pristine with no pre-scratches or markings.

2

Connect and Power On

Connect your Ledger device to your computer using the provided USB cable. For Nano X users, you can also use Bluetooth connectivity with the Ledger Live mobile app.

Power on your device by pressing the button(s). You'll be greeted with a welcome message and guided through the initial setup process on the device screen.

3

Initialize Your Device

Choose to set up as a new device. Your Ledger will generate a new random recovery phrase—this is the master key to all your cryptocurrencies.

You'll have the option to configure a PIN code. Choose a PIN that's hard to guess but memorable to you. This PIN protects your device from physical access.

4

Write Down Your Recovery Phrase

This is the most critical security step. Your device will display a 24-word recovery phrase one word at a time. Carefully write down each word in exact order on your recovery sheet.

Never digitize your recovery phrase—no photos, no cloud storage, no digital documents. Store it securely offline, preferably in a fireproof and waterproof safe.

5

Confirm Your Recovery Phrase

Your Ledger will ask you to confirm several words from your recovery phrase to ensure you've written it down correctly. This verification step is crucial—if you can't restore access with your phrase, your funds could be permanently lost.

6

Install Ledger Live

Download Ledger Live from the official Ledger website only. Be cautious of phishing sites—always double-check the URL is ledger.com.

Install the application on your desktop or mobile device. Follow the setup wizard to connect your Ledger device to Ledger Live.

7

Install Apps and Add Accounts

Use Ledger Live to install apps for the cryptocurrencies you want to manage. Each crypto asset has its own app that needs to be installed on your Ledger device.

After installing apps, add accounts for each cryptocurrency. Your Ledger will generate receiving addresses for you to fund your new secure wallet.

8

Transfer Crypto Assets

Now you're ready to transfer your cryptocurrencies to your Ledger-secured addresses. Start with a small test transaction to verify everything works correctly.

Always verify receiving addresses on your Ledger device screen before transferring funds—this protects against malware that might alter addresses on your computer.
